Signing of a Letter of Intent between the Ministry of the Environment of Japan and the National Institute for Environmental Studies, and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of Brazil and the National Institute for Space Research

<Joint Announcement with the National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES)>

1. On September 3, 2026, ISHIHARA Hirotaka, Minister of the Environment of Japan, and OSHIMA Yoshito, President of the National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES); and Ms. Luciana Santos, Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation of the Federative Republic of Brazil, and Mr. Antônio Monteiro, Director of the National Institute for Space Research, signed a “Letter of Intent (LOI) between the Ministry of the Environment of Japan and the National Institute for Environmental Studies, and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of Brazil and the National Institute for Space Research.”

2. The Letter of Intent expresses the intention to strengthen cooperation between Japan and the Federative Republic of Brazil in the field of greenhouse gas observation satellites, including the GOSAT series.  

3. Based on the Letter of Intent, cooperation between the two countries in this field will be advanced.
