The 5th AZEC International Conference to Develop Carbon Markets Held in Hiroshima

<Joint Press Release with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan>

 The Ministry of the Environment (MOE) and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan co-hosted the 5th Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) International Conference to Develop Carbon Market (AZEC-DCM) in Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture on July 15, 2026. The energy and environment ministries of AZEC partner countries, as well as representatives of related agencies and private companies, participated in the meeting and engaged in active discussions on developing carbon markets in those countries, including the utilization of the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM).

■ AZEC International Conference to Develop Carbon Market

(1) The AZEC International Conference to Develop Carbon Market (AZEC-DCM) was launched in May 2025 as a platform for policymakers’ dialogue to discuss matters specified in the Action Plan for Next Decade adopted at the 2nd AZEC Leaders’ Meeting in October 2024. Specifically, the AZEC-DCM addresses enhancing the competitiveness of industries through the visualization of GHG emissions throughout the supply chain and the promotion of high-integrity carbon markets.

(2) To date, four meetings have been convened, and discussions toward the development of the carbon market have been deepened.
