Online Symposium “Transformative and Behavioral Changes towards Nature-Positive Society” to Be Held February 26, 2024

< Simultaneous announcement by the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies >
1.The online Symposium "Transformative and Behavioral Changes towards Nature-Positive Society" will be held on February 26, 2024.

2.In this symposium, the latest scientific information on the scenarios and models provided by the "Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES)" will be shared. The concept and cases of the "transformative changes" and "behavioral changes" and the actions required to realize them will be introduced in an easy-to-understand manner toward the implementation of the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan of Japan 2023-2030, which was approved by the Cabinet in March 2023.

1.Outline of the event

Ecosystem and their services underpinned by rich biodiversity are the foundation of our society, economy, livelihoods, and culture, providing a variety of benefits and contributing to human well-being. However, according to the scientific assessment reports published by the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), around one million species already face extinction worldwide. To halt and reverse biodiversity loss and put nature on a path to recovery, transformative change across economic, social, political and technological factors is required. The National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) of Japan 2023-2030 approved by the Japanese Cabinet in March 2023, which states the 2030 Mission as “Realization of Nature-Positive.” The Japanese NBSAP also includes a Basic Strategy related to individual behavior change for its implementation.
In this symposium, we will invite experts from Japan and abroad and share information in an easy-to-understand manner on how we can bring about "transformative changes" and "behavioral changes," which have been stipulated in the Japanese NBSAP, based on the latest scientific information provided by IPBES.
