Result of First Joint Committee of the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) between Japan and Georgia

1. On January 23, 2024, the first meeting of the Joint Committee of the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) between Georgia and Japan was held in a hybrid format (in person in Georgia and online).

2. After the adoption of the Rules of Procedures for the Joint Committee, Co-Chairs were appointed. Then, the Joint Committee adopted the rules and guidelines for implementing the JCM consistent with Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. Furthermore, the Japanese side explained the financing programmes for the JCM, and the Joint Committee exchanged views on the JCM implementation.

3. Japan will promote JCM projects in Georgia based on the adopted rules, thereby reducing GHG emissions, notably through leading decarbonization technologies, and contributing to both countries' NDCs (nationally determined contributions).

4. The day after the Joint Committee meeting, the "Georgia JCM Seminar" was held to disseminate the information on the JCM in Georgia. There were a number of participants from both the governments and the private sector, and the participants had active discussions on possible projects, technical support, and so on.
