Signing of Memorandum of Cooperation in the Field of Environmental Protections by Japan and the Republic of the Philippines

1.ITO Shintaro, Minister of the Environment, Japan and H.E. Ms. Maria Antonia Yulo Loyzaga, Secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources  (DENR) of the Republic of the Philippines, who was visiting Japan for The Commemorative Summit for the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation, signed the Memorandum of Cooperation Between the Ministry of the Environment of Japan and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources of the Republic of the Philippines in the Field of Environmental Protections, and the documents were exchanged in the presence of Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio and President Ferdinand Marcos.  
 
2.In the future, comprehensive environmental cooperation between Japan and the Philippines will be pursued under this MOC, including in areas such as climate change, plastic pollution, and biodiversity.

1.Background

 The Ministry of the Environment (MOE), Japan has been organizing the environmental dialogue on waste management, support for the formulation of guidelines, and Japan-Philippines Environment Week, which has integrated seminars and exhibitions with the Philippines DENR since 2015.

 In order to further promote environmental cooperation between Japan and the Philippines, ITO Shintaro, Minister of the Environment, Japan and H.E. Ms. Maria Antonia Yulo Loyzaga, Secretary of the DENR of the Republic of the Philippines, who was visiting Japan for The Commemorative Summit for the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation, signed “the Memorandum of Cooperation Between the Ministry of the Environment of Japan and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources of the Republic of the Philippines in the Field of Environmental Protections”, and the documents were exchanged in the presence of Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio and President Ferdinand Marcos.

 In the future, based on this MOC, comprehensive environmental cooperation between Japan and the Philippines will be pursued, extending the scope of cooperation beyond waste management to include areas such as climate change, plastic pollution and biodiversity.
