Seminar on Critical Minerals Supply Chain through E-waste Recycling in India
- This seminar, which was attended by representatives from the Ministry of the Environment, Japan and the Embassy of Japan in India, as well as related governmental agencies and private-sector companies (including manufacturers, recyclers and smelting and refining companies), aimed to deepen understanding of the legal framework concerning e-waste recycling in India and the realities of the informal sector.
- Participants shared challenges faced in e-waste recycling from the private-sector perspectives, in particular, and also exchanged views on how best to establish robust supply chains for securing critical minerals through e-waste recycling in line with the Indian context.
- In summary, the importance of collective action by private sectors was shared, as well as the importance of promoting public–private partnerships between Japan and India such as inter-city cooperation frameworks and subsidy programs to support such efforts.
