Public Comments Invitation regarding the Approval of Type 1 Use Regulation of Living Modified Organisms

The Ministry of the Environment (MOE), Japan received six applications (for six types of silk worms) to approve the conditions (the organism's name, the contents of use, etc.) concerning the use of Living Modified Organisms ("Type 1 Use Regulations"), submitted in accordance with the Act on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biological Diversity through Regulations on the Use of Living Modified Organisms (Law No. 97 of 2003).
MOE Japan intends to approve these applications, recognizing that the use of the organisms would have no adverse effects that could pose an unacceptable risk of impairment to the preservation of species or populations of wild fauna or flora, and that no other adverse effects on biological diversity could arise. This judgment will be made taking into account the content of consultations with experts.

MOE Japan is inviting comments from the public prior to approving the applications. Comments will be accepted from May 30 to June 28, 2023.
All procedures related to this invitation for public comments will be conducted in Japanese. Comments need to be submitted in Japanese.
