The Tenth Global Conference of the International Partnership for the Satoyama Initiative (IPSI-10) to Be Organized in Riobamba, Ecuador

The Ministry of the Environment (MOE) of Japan is pleased to announce that the Tenth Global Conference of the International Partnership for the Satoyama Initiative (IPSI-10) will be organized from March 3 to 5, 2026 in Riobamba, the Republic of Ecuador. The Conference will bring together IPSI members from around the world to discuss progress made since IPSI-9 and to determine the concrete actions to be taken by the international partnership for the effective implementation of the Satoyama Initiative.

1. Overview

IPSI-10 will be held at the Escuela Superior Politécnica de Chimborazo (ESPOCH) in Riobamba, Ecuador. The Conference is co-organized by the IPSI Secretariat (United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability: UNU-IAS), the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) of Japan, ESPOCH, and the University of Georgia (UGA).
During the Conference, IPSI members will review major activities undertaken since IPSI-9 and are scheduled to adopt the Actionable Implementation Plan (AIP) for the implementation of the IPSI Action Plan 2023–2030. IPSI Steering Committee member rotations will also be confirmed.

2. Public Forum

A Public Forum, which is open to non‑IPSI participants will be held on March 4 (hybrid format) under the theme:
“Conservation in Mountain Landscapes and Sustainable Ecotourism”
The Forum will feature keynote presentations and panel discussions on the protection of mountain landscapes, awareness-raising for conservation efforts, and the role of sustainable ecotourism in socio-ecological production landscapes and seascapes (SEPLS).
