IAEA-MOE Japan Experts’ Meeting on Volume Reduction and Recycling of Removed Soil arising from Decontamination Activities after the accident at the TEPCO’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will hold the Experts’ Meeting on the Recycling of Removed Soil in cooperation with the Ministry of the Environment (MOE), Japan, to discuss about measures taken to promote the recycling of removed soil, including final disposal in the future as well as building public understanding, and provide assessment, advice and support to the MOE Japan.

Upon the request of the MOE Japan, the IAEA will hold the experts’ meeting on the recycling of removed soil arising from decontamination activities.
 
The purposes of this meeting are to discuss about measures taken by the MOE Japan to promote the recycling of removed soil, including final disposal in the future as well as building public understanding, and assessment, advice and support will be provided by the IAEA from an international viewpoint.
 
Currently three meetings are planned to be held in 2023, and the first meeting will take place in coming spring (Details of agenda and schedule are under the coordination between the MOE Japan and the IAEA).
 
During the meetings, views regarding the recycling of removed soil will be exchanged between IAEA and the MOE Japan, and site visits by the IAEA in Fukushima Prefecture will be implemented.
 
The final report of the meetings will be drafted by the IAEA, followed by submission to the MOE Japan, and will be made open to public.
