Japan and the United Arab Emirates Sign a Memorandum of Cooperation on Environmental Cooperation

On November 14, 2022, on the occasion of the 27th Conference of the Parties (COP27) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) being held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, NISHIMURA Akihiro, Minister of the Environment, Japan, and H.E. Ms. Mariam bint Mohammed Saeed Hareb Almheiri, Minister of Climate Change and Environment of the United Arab Emirates, signed the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministry of the Environment of Japan and the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment of the United Arab Emirates on Environmental Cooperation.
Background and Objectives
The Ministry of the Environment (MOE), Japan, has been making arrangements for the conclusion of a memorandum of cooperation in the environmental field, based on a proposal from the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
 
The purpose of the memorandum is to promote comprehensive cooperation in the environmental field between the two countries. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and the UAE, the two countries signed the memorandum, which will also contribute to the implementation of the Japan-UAE Comprehensive and Strategic Partnership Initiative (CSPI).
 
With the conclusion of the memorandum, MOE Japan will promote cooperation in the field of climate change with the UAE, the COP28 Presidency, and work together toward the success of COP28.
