4th General Assembly of the African Clean Cities Platform (ACCP)
The Ministry of the Environment (MOE), Japan, together with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), City of Yokohama, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) will host the 4th General Assembly of the African Clean Cities Platform (ACCP) in Yokohama on August 20 and 21, 2025, as a partner project of the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) in Yokohama.
At this assembly, presentations and discussions will be held on the challenges in waste management African countries are facing, and the New Yokohama Action Guidance, which outlines activities for the next three years, will be announced.
In addition, the establishment of the “MOE Japan Fund for Project Development Facilitation for Waste Management in Africa" will also be announced at an inauguration reception during the assembly, with the aim of promoting requests for waste infrastructure projects to the World Bank and other international development agencies in order to improve public health in Africa.

Background
The African Clean Cities Platform (ACCP) was established in April 2017 by the Ministry of the Environment (MOE), Japan and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) as part of the follow-up to the 6th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 6) in order to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through the sharing of knowledge and experience on waste management, capacity building of human resources and organizations, and promotion of investment. As of May 2025, 47 African countries and 198 cities have joined the platform.
