Results of the survey on the enforcement status of the Soil Contamination Countermeasures Law and soil contamination investigations and countermeasures in the 2007 fiscal year

The Ministry of the Environment has conducted its annual survey on the enforcement status of the Soil Contamination Countermeasures Law and soil contamination investigations and countermeasures which have been reported or recognized by prefectures and/or cabinet-ordered designated cities.

The number of investigations of soil contamination based on said law reported in the 2007 fiscal year, which began in April 2007 and ended in March 2008, amounts to 243. The total number of investigations after the enactment of the act reached 946

As a result of said soil contamination investigations, 81 lots have been shown to exceed the designated standards, which has resulted in their being put on the list of designated areas for 2007; the total number of these lots dating from after the enactment of the act came to 270.
