Air Quality Status for FY 2007

The state of air quality is constantly monitored throughout Japan at more than 2,000 monitoring stations. The monitoring is conducted by prefectures and ordinance-designated municipal governments in accordance with on the Air Pollution Control Law. As of March 31, 2008, there were 1,561 Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Stations (AAQMSs), which include 9 national stations, and 445 roadside Air Quality Monitoring Stations (RAQMSs), which include 10 national stations.
