FY 2005 Home Appliance Recycling Results Published by Manufacturers

The results of home appliance recycling conducted in FY 2005 under the Law for the Recycling of Specified Kinds of Home Appliances were published by the Association for Electric Home Appliances. Individual manufacturers also announced their FY 2005 recycling results. The results show that all manufacturers achieved the recycling rates subscribed in the law. Total recycling rates for air conditioners was 84% (legally required rate 60%), 77% (legally required rate 55%) for television sets, 66% (legally required rate 50%) for refrigerators and 75% (legally required rate 50%) for washing machines.

The amounts of fluorocarbons recovered and destroyed were approximately 1,100 tons of refrigerant fluorocarbons from air conditioners, approximately 310 tons of refrigerant fluorocarbons from refrigerators and approximately 610 tons of fluorocarbons from thermal insulation of refrigerators.
