Green Purchasing in Local Governments Questionnaire Results

The Japanese Ministry of Environment has released the results on its website regarding tackling to Green Purchasing and the problem as introducing it. The questionnaire was conducted from July 2007 to August 2007, covering nationwide local governments. It was aimed at organizing basic data for expanding preferentially procurement items as low environmental impact, or Green Purchasing.

In view of the result, prefectures, municipalities and metropolitan cities already have systematically introduced Green Purchasing policies. Local government, especially small-scale local governments such as towns and villages, needs to push forward their efforts in order to expand their Green Purchasing. In the previous fiscal year, the Ministry of Environment of Japan organized the Guidelines for Encouraging Green Procurement and distributed local governments across the country. The policy is easy to understand and concerns greens purchasing. They hope that many will actively use this booklet.
