Commemorative Kick-off Symposium for Biodiversity: Towards the Successful Hosting of the COP10 in Nagoya, Aichi in 2010

A symposium will be held on 14th June in Nagoya, Aichi prefecture to commemorate the "The Third National Biodiversity Strategy of Japan" (decided last November) and the government's offering to host the COP10 to the Convention of Biological Diversity (CBD) in 2010. The symposium will provide an opportunity to enhance understanding of biodiversity through a keynote presentation by Ichiro Kamoshita, Minister of the Environment and Ahmed Djoghlaf, Executive Secretary of the CBD and panel discussion by researchers and practitioners.
The Ministry of the Environment and the COP10 Promotion Committee will organize the symposium. This symposium will be held in Japanese. The COP10 venue will be decided on May 30, the last day of the COP9 to the CBD.
