Shinjuku Gyoen 100th Anniversary Memorial Ceremony

The Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, and many events will be held in the garden during the period between April 2006 and March 2007.

As the opening ceremony of this memorable year, the "Shinjuku Gyoen 100th Anniversary Memorial Ceremony" will be held at the Shinjuku Gyoen Pavilion on Friday, April 28, 2006. The Greenery Day Award Ceremony will also be held to honor those who have made outstanding contributions in the field of environmental preservation.

1. Shinjuku Gyoen 100th Anniversary Memorial Ceremony
The memorial ceremony will be held on Friday, April 28. The participants in this ceremony include those who are associated with Shinjuku Gyoen and those who live in neighboring communities. The garden will be closed to the public for the day.

2. Greenery Day Award Ceremony for Contributors to Environmental Preservation
During the opening ceremony, the Minister of the Environment will honor those who have made outstanding contributions to environmental preservation. For further information about the award ceremony, see the article on "Greenery Day Gathering for Contact with Nature" (in Japanese only).

3. Presentation of the Certificate of Appreciation
Certificate of Appreciation will be presented to individuals and organizations who worked for the development of Shinjuku Gyoen. Five people and 13 organizations will be recognized for their contribution during the opening ceremony
