Cabinet Decision to be Made on Status of Lake Hachiro as a Designated Lake

The decision to make Lake Hachiro in Akita Prefecture a designated lake is to be made by the cabinet on December 7, 2007.
The Law Concerning Special Measures for Conservation of Lake Water Quality, stipulates that on cabinet decision, the Minster of the Environment shall designate lakes which require urgent treatment to their water quality. Based on the law, the governor of Akita Prefecture has requested that Minister designate Lake Hachiro such status, at which the governor will draw up a Lake Water Quality Conservation Plan for Lake Hachiro.
Upon designation, Lake Hachiro will be the eleventh such lake following Lake Biwa, Lake Kasumigaura and others.
