An Aggregate of Fluorocarbons Destroyed in FY 2006

The Ministry of the Environment announced the amount of fluorocarbons destroyed in FY 2006 based on reports submitted by fluorocarbon destruction operators as required under the Law concerning the Recovery and Destruction of Fluorocarbons.

1. Total amount of fluorocarbons destroyed
Fluorocarbons destroyed in FY 2006 totaled 3,183 tons, a 14% increase from the FY 2005 level. The breakdown of this figure by types of fluorocarbons is 590 tons of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), 1,821 tons of hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), and 772 tons of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs)

2. Amount of specified products collected
The breakdown of fluorocarbons collected by specified products is 2,430 tons of commercial refrigerators and air conditioners, an increase of approximately 15 % from the FY 2005 level, and 772 tons of mobile air conditioners, an increase of approximately 11% from the FY 2005 level.

Note: Since January 2005, recovery of fluorocarbons used as refrigerant in mobile air conditioners has been carried out in line with the Law for the Recycling of End-of-Life Vehicles.
