Cooperation with China for Breeding of the Japanese Crested Ibis

On April 11, 2007, Minister of the Environment Wakabayashi and the Chinese Ambassador Wang signed a memorandum for cooperation regarding two Japanese crested ibises to be given to Japan by China. With this signing, Japan and China will promote technology exchange with the aim of returning Japanese crested ibis to the wild. In addition, with China giving two of these birds to Japan, both countries will cooperate in breeding and studies of this species.
The specific date on which the Japanese crested ibis is to be transferred will be determined, after consultation with China on quarantine inspection conditions, climate, etc.
