Cabinet decision on the "Plan for Global Warming Countermeasures" and " Japan's Long-term Strategy under the Paris Agreement", and decision by the Global Warming Prevention Headquarters on "Japan's NDC (Nationally Determined Contribution)"

(October 22, 2021, Tokyo) The Ministry of the Environment, Japan (MOEJ), announced today that the Cabinet approved the following plans on October 22, 2021,

<1> the "Plan for Global Warming Countermeasures" and

<2> the "Japan's Long-term Strategy under the Paris Agreement," and

the Global Warming Prevention Headquarters decided on

<3> "Japan's Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC)."

In addition, MOEJ announced the results of the public comments solicited from September 3 to

October 4, 2021, on the drafts of <1>, <2>, and <3>.

The Global Warming Prevention Headquarters compiled the government's draft proposals, and issued a call for public comments from September 3 to October 4, 2021, following discussions at joint meetings of the Subcommittee on Mid- Long-term Climate Change Countermeasures of the Global Environment Committee under the Central Environment Council and the Working Group on Global Warming Countermeasures of the Subcommittee on Global Environment of the Committee on Industrial Science and Technology Policy and Environment under the Industrial Structure Council. Based on the received comments, the Cabinet approved <1> the "Plan for Global Warming Countermeasures" and <2> "Japan's Long-term Strategy under the Paris Agreement," and the Global Warming Prevention Headquarters decided on <3> "Japan's Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC)."

Japan's NDC (English) and the Long-term Strategy under the Paris Agreement (English) will be posted on the website of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
