Results of the 17th ASEAN+3 Environment Ministers Meeting

Dr. YAMAGUCHI Tsuyoshi, Minister of the Environment, Japan, participated in the ASEAN+3 Environment Ministers' Meeting held online on October 22, 2021.

(1) Opening remarks were delivered by the meeting Chair, Dr. Siti Nurbaya Bakar, Minister of Environment and Forestry, Republic of Indonesia, and delegates from Japan, China, and the Republic of Korea. Then, ASEAN+3 countries presented their environmental initiatives and ASEAN members' individual cooperation with Japan, China, and the Republic of Korea.

(2) As part of ASEAN+3 cooperative initiatives, Minister Yamaguchi presented efforts based on the "Marine Plastics Debris Cooperative Action Initiative". With regards to Japan-ASEAN cooperation, he shared efforts based on the "ASEAN-Japan Climate Change Action Agenda". Finally, he proposed to enhance cooperation on climate change in the areas of transparency, mitigation, and adaptation.
