Implementation of Measures to Prevent Large Container Bags with Removed Soil from Being Carried Away from Temporary Storage Sites (TSS)

In October 2019, large container bags, which contain removed soil from off-site decontamination works following the accident of TEPCO's Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Station, were carried away from Temporary Storage Sites (TSS) into rivers by heavy rains due to Typhoon Hagibis. Since then, the Ministry of the Environment, Japan (MOE) conducted an overall inspection and identified 12 TSS where prevention measures were needed. By the end of May 2020, the MOE and municipalities had implemented recurrence prevention measures.
