FY2006 Global Warming Prevention Month Events

Following the 3rd Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP3) held in Kyoto in 1997, the Ministry of the Environment decided to designate the month of December as the Global Warming Prevention Month beginning in 1998. During this month, both the public and private sectors together with civil groups carry out various events and activities that help make the public become more aware of global warming prevention efforts. With the effectuation of the Kyoto Protocol in February 16, 2005, and the stipulation of the Kyoto Protocol Target Achievement Plan in April the same year, it has become ever more important to promote global warming prevention measures. In December 2006, various events will take place throughout Japan by all three sectors to further familiarize the public with the importance of such measures.
