Results of the Tenth Regional EST Forum in Asia

Ministry of the Environment (MOE)-Japan, United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD), Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT)-Lao PDR, United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) , United Nations Office for Sustainable Development (UNOSD) and Partnership on Sustainable Low Carbon Transport (SLoCaT) jointly organized the Intergovernmental Tenth Regional EST (Environmentally Sustainable Transport) Forum in Asia on March 14-16, 2017 at Don Chan Palace Hotel & Convention, Vientiane, Lao PDR.

The Regional EST Forum in Asia is a high-level policy dialogue among governments in Asian countries with the objective of achieving environmentally sustainable transport in the Asian region. The Tenth Forum was attended by officials and experts, including 28 government representatives.

Key elements discussed at the Tenth Forum are shown as below:

・Major challenges, progress and achievements by countries on the implementation of Bangkok 2020 Declaration for EST and respective countries' overview and reconfirmation; and

・EST~ Aligning with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Paris Climate Agreement; and

・Vientiane Declaration for Environmentally Sustainable Rural Transport.

Participants confirmed that more efforts should be made for the promotion of EST.

It was also agreed that the next Forum will be held in Mongolia.
