An Aggregate of Fluorocarbons Destroyed in FY 2014.

The Ministry of the Environment announced the amount of fluorocarbons destroyed in FY 2014 based on reports submitted by fluorocarbon destruction operators as required under the Law concerning the Recovery and Destruction of Fluorocarbons.

1. Total amount of fluorocarbons destroyed

Fluorocarbons destroyed in FY 2014 totaled 4.495 metric tons (1), a 0.6% increase from the FY 2013 level. The breakdown of this figure by types of fluorocarbons is 155 tons of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), 2,305 tons of hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), and 2,034 tons of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) .

2. Amount of specified products collected

The breakdown of fluorocarbons collected by specified products is 3,731 tons of commercial refrigerators and air conditioners, a 1.4% increase from the FY 2013 level, and 772 tons of automotive air conditioners, a 3.8% decrease from the FY 2013 level.

Note: Since January 2005, recovery of fluorocarbons used as refrigerant in Vehicles air conditioners has been carried out in line with the Law for the Recycling of End-of-Life Vehicles.
