The Twenty-Third Asia-Pacific Seminar on Climate Change

Ministry of the Environment, Japan will hold "The Twenty-Third Asia-Pacific Seminar on Climate Change" with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Australia and Ishikawa Prefecture for two days on 25th (Monday) and 26th (Tuesday) August in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture. The purpose of this seminar is to contribute to support activities on climate change, raise awareness on these issues, share some experiences relating climate change measures, and promote international cooperation in the Asia Pacific region. The officials in charge of climate change issues in this region will attend the seminar and exchange their opinions. This seminar has taken place in some country of this region annually since 1991, which has been the first time in two years since the seminar was held in Japan.


Officials and experts, who are in charge of national mitigation measures and projects, and research in the same area in the Asia Pacific region, and administrative officials of this region, who are in charge of the UNFCCC negotiations, will participate in this seminar coming from the Asia Pacific region (about 12 countries), developed countries (3 countries and 1 region), and international organizations (about 8 organizations). They will have a technical discussion on the current situation of formation and implementation of "Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions: NAMA" in developing countries, problems and solution based on existing policies and achievement, and basic idea of "Intended Nationally Determined Contributions: INDCs" relating the post-2020 framework.
