FY 2005 Status of Air Pollution

The state of air pollution is constantly monitored throughout Japan at 2,066 monitoring stations. The monitoring is conducted by prefectures and ordinance-designated municipal governments based on the Air Pollution Control Law. As of March 31, 2006, there were 1,619 ambient air pollution monitoring stations (AAPMSs), which include 9 national stations, and there are 447 roadside air pollution monitoring stations (RAPMSs), which include 10 national stations.
