Results of FY 2012 Survey of the Implementation of the Act to Prevent Soil Contamination on Agricultural Land

The MOE compiled the results of the FY 2012 Survey of the Implementation of the Act to Prevent Soil Contamination on Agricultural Land. The survey results consist of the continuous monitoring reports submitted by the prefectural governors. Under the Act, each prefectural governor shall continuously monitor the condition of agricultural land soil pollution caused by Designated Hazardous Substances (cadmium, copper and arsenic).

Summary of the survey results:
(1) As a result of the continuous monitoring, 6 areas exceeded the regulatory standards for Designated Hazardous Substance (cadmium).
(2) There was no newly designated Area for Countermeasures.
(3) There were 2 Areas for Countermeasures where the designation was partially canceled.
(4) There was no Area for Countermeasures where a new Plan for Countermeasures was formulated.
(5) At the end of FY 2012, 6,906 ha have completed measures.
