Government's Greenhouse Gas Emissions for FY 2005

On October 27, 2006, the status report for the Action Plan for Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction in Government Operations was put together at the Meeting of Senior Officials of the Global Warming Prevention Headquarters.

The total greenhouse gas emissions from Japan's government operations for FY 2005 were 1,971,101 tons, a decrease of 1.2 % compared with those for FY 2001, the base year set in the Action Plan.

In addition, the progress in formulating global warming action plans by independent administrative institutions and other organizations, and information on the best practices among those being surveyed by ministries were reported and assessed.

The Action Plan for Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction in Government Operations was approved by the Cabinet on July 19, 2002, and revised on April 28 2005. The plan has been promoted by the government pursuant to the Climate Change Policy Law (Law No. 117 of 1998) and the Basic Policy on Measures to Tackle Global Warming (Cabinet Decision, April 9, 1999).
