Ozone Layer Protection Action Month

The Japanese Government has designated September as the month for promoting ozone layer protection action in recognition of the adoption of the "Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer" on September 16, 1987. During that month, national and local governments will make intensive efforts to increase public awareness towards ozone layer protection and fluorocarbon countermeasures, including the Law Concerning the Recovery and Destruction of Fluorocarbons.

Fluorocarbons are the substances that destroy the ozone layer which absorbs harmful ultraviolet radiation and whose depletion contributes to the promotion of global warming. Through the Ozone Layer Protection Action Month, national and local governments appeal on how important it is to prevent the depletion of the Ozone layer and global warming by conducting our daily efforts and countermeasures.
