Status of Improper Disposal of Sulfate Pitch (Second Half of FY 2005)

The Ministry of the Environment compiled data on the status of confirmed illegal dumping and improper storage (hereinafter referred to as "improper disposal") of sulfate pitch for the second half of FY2005 (from October 1, 2005 to March 31, 2006) with the cooperation of prefectural governments and ordinance designated municipalities.
The number of cases and the quantity of improper disposals of sulfate pitch confirmed during the period were 16 cases and 2,768 barrels (quantity converted into metal barrels). Improper disposals of sulfate pitch confirmed from FY 1999 to FY2005 were 257 cases (66,008 barrels). Out of these, 205 cases (54,217 barrels) have been fully treated. Both the number of cases and the quantity of improper disposal showed a declining trend.
