Handling of Additional "Invasive Alien Species" Specified on Gazette

The designation of the large earth bumblebee (Bombus terrestris) and two genera of long-armed scarabs (Euchirus and Propomacrus) as Invasive Alien Species (IAS) will take effect on September 1, 2006. In response to the designation, the enforcement regulation, the standards for the facilities to keep the newly designated IAS, and other details of handling these IAS under the Invasive Alien Species Act were amended and promulgated through the official gazette on August 22.

Public comments on the amendments had been invited from July 20 to August 18. A summary of the comments received is available on the Ministry of the Environment website (in Japanese).
