The Second Plenary Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Forum for Environment and Development in the Second Phase (APFED II) Held

The second plenary meeting of the Asia-Pacific Forum for Environment and Development in the Second Phase (APFED II) was held on July 31 and August 1, 2006 in Adelaide, Australia.

The APFED is a forum of eminent persons established in 2001 with a mission to propose a model of equitable and sustainable development for the Asia-Pacific region.

During the meeting, progress on the core activities of the APFED II, such as the Knowledge Initiative, Policy Dialogues, and Innovation Showcase Program were reported on and discussed. A ceremony for the Ryutaro Hashimoto APFED Awards was held to commend activities deemed to be good practices, which contribute to promoting socially equitable and sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region. To support the implementation of APFED II activities, a network of research institutes in Asia and the Pacific (NetRes) was established as a knowledge centre. Accordingly, the "Instrument of Establishment for NetRes" and a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) were signed.
