Opinions of the Minister of the Environment on the Environmental Impact Statement for the Ohno-Taketa Road
On August 7, 2006, the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) submitted the Minister's opinions on the environmental impact statement for the Ohno-Taketa Road, Route 57, to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, in accordance with the provisions of the Environmental Impact Assessment Law.
This project is planned to construct a national road 12 km in length with 4 lanes in Ohita Prefecture. As the planned route partly crosses the habitats of a rare salamander, the MOE emphasized that this project should:
1. Take appropriate measures to maintain the habitats of the salamander.
2. Conduct follow-up surveys on the state of inhabitation of the salamander.
