Summary of import/export of wastes under the Waste Management Law in 2009

The MOE has published a summary of export confirmations and import permissions of wastes covering January to December 2009 under the Waste Management and Public Cleansing Law. The number of export confirmations and import permissions of wastes were 27 cases and 18 cases, respectively. The total amount of export and import of wastes were 784,409 tons and 1,474 tons, respectively. All of exported wastes were ash from coal-fired power plants destined only for cement production in South Korea. Imported wastes included waste dry batteries and iodine liquid waste, which were received mainly from Asian countries for the purpose of resource recovery.
