Air Quality Status for FY 2008

The state of air quality is constantly monitored throughout Japan with 1,987 monitoring stations. The monitoring is conducted by prefectures and ordinance-designated municipal governments based on the Air Pollution Control Law. As of March 31, 2009, there were 1,549 Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Stations (AAQMSs), which include 9 national stations, and there are 438 Roadside Air Quality Monitoring Stations (RAQMSs), which include 10 national stations.
