Results of the Asia-Pacific Regional Workshop on the Satoyama Initiative Concept: Ecosystem Services in the Asia-Pacific Region

The MOE and the United Nations University Institute of Advanced Studies (UNU-IAS) convened the "Asia-Pacific Regional Workshop on the Satoyama Initiative Concept" for governmental officials, researchers, and experts in the Asia-Pacific region in Penang, Malaysia on October 1-2, 2009. It was co-organized by the Malaysia's Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, etc.

In the workshop, the lectures and case studies given by participants such as "The Management Features of Satoyama-like Landscapes and their Benefits for Biodiversity Conservation and Human Well-being" triggered active discussions on the International Satoyama Initiative Concept and the partnership for its promotion.
