FY 2008 Dissemination Status of Johkasoh (On-Site Domestic Effluent Treatment Systems)
The number of people served by the johkasoh is 11.27 million, an increase of 60 thousand compared to FY 2007 (as of March 31, 2008). The dissemination rate of johkasoh to the total population is 8.87%, an increase of 0.05% compared to FY 2007 (8.82%).
Johkasoh are an on-site treatment systems for domestic effluent which include human waste and are installed in the household and its treated water discharged to the nearest public water area. Johkasoh have the following features making the system an effective measure of domestic effluent from houses which are dispersed.
(i) The duration of installation is very short and installation expenses are comparatively low.
(ii) The system utilizes the natural purification capacity of small rivers and contributes to maintaining water volume.
(iii) The system is easy to install, regardless of the surrounding geological formations.
