"Air Pollution Prediction System" on the "Environmental GIS" Website - Predicting the concentration of photochemical oxidants etc. in the Chubu, Kansai, and Kyushu areas of Japan -

The National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES) provides air pollutant concentration maps of the East Asia area, the whole of Japan, and the Kanto area to show the atmospheric concentration of photochemical oxidants and nitrogen dioxide on its Environmental GIS website. The concentration of these air pollutants is predicted by the "Air Pollution Prediction System" which the NIES developed by combining a meteorological model with a chemical transportation model. New air pollutant concentration maps of Chubu, Kansai, and Kyushu areas will be experimentally provided on the Environmental GIS website. The prediction system for the Kansai area has been developed by NIES. The Ministry of the Environment has developed a prediction system for the Chubu and Kyushu areas with the technical cooperation of NIES. The new air pollution concentration maps will be available on July 1st, 2009, at 9:00am.
