Abstract

Rehabilitation of degraded forest and sustainable forest management contribute to climate change adaptation as nature-based solutions (NbS) through disaster risk reduction and providing livelihoods.
Japan, as one of the world's forest-rich nations, has supported sustainable forest management efforts in developing countries. Japan also has long experience in disaster prevention and mitigation using forest functions as a countermeasure against mountain disasters. In addition, forest-based disaster risk reduction technologies have been developed for disaster prevention and mitigation, such as creating mountain disaster risk maps using remote sensing technologies and examining countermeasures, as well as clarifying the function of healthy mangrove forests in coastal areas for disaster risk reduction.
This seminar will focus on climate change adaptation through forests. Speakers from government agencies, research institutes, international organizations, and developing countries will share their experience and the reforestation and climate change countermeasures through forest sector initiatives in developing countries and discuss based on the latest findings.
