Summary
The goal of this event was to gather ideas from delegates around the world how to make Tokyo Olympics more Sustainable. After organizing a 3-day innovation workshop Make it Real in Tokyo, Climate Youth Japan has been exchanging ideas with Tokyo Olympics Low Carbon Working Group. However, generation of ideas has been going on quite tightly, so we decided to organize an interactive workshop during COP22 to take advantage of the diversity of nationalities that have gathered in Marrakech. We started by briefly introducing what kind of activities Climate Youth Japan has been doing in Japan, mainly submission of environmental policy propositions to Japanese government on the topics of energy and Climate education, and interaction with businesses who aim to be more sustainable by organizing a coalition Climate Leaders Program (CLP). Then we moved to the activity. After asking participants what kind of topics are important, we divided them into three groups of interest: transportation, waste and energy. First, each group had to identify the core of the problem by asking themselves "why do they care about this issue". Second, they had to brainstorm the solutions to this problem. After choosing 1-3 most interesting ideas, they had to present these ideas to other participants. Lastly, we held feedback sessions on how these ideas could be improved. It was very hard to come up with tangible solutions in such a short period of time. Nevertheless, this workshop was very meaningful because we identified areas on which we need to focus when talking about sustainability and Olympics. It was also great that a participant from Brazil shared his experience with Rio Olympics.
