An international symposium on marine litter will be held in Jan. 2016.

2016　New Year Symposium on Marine Litter

"2016 New Year Symposium on Marine Litter" will be held at Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology on January 23 and 24, 2016.

The problem on marine litter has become serious at all over the world including Japan. Marine litter was acknowledged as a global challenge even in the Leaders Declaration mutually agreed in G7 Elmau Summit held in June, 2015.

The Ministry of the Environment will invite researchers and share information in the symposium of January 23. In addition, various entities such as local governments, industries and NPOs will introduce you their various efforts in the symposium of January 24.

We would like people who are interested in the marine litter problem to participate in the symposium.

1. Event Details

  • Date: January 23(Sat.) and 24(Sun.), 2016
  • Venue: Shinagawa Campus, Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology (4-5-7 Konan, Minato-Ward, Tokyo)
  • Host: Ministry of the Environment, Government of Japan, Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology
  • Contents and Schedule:
    • ･ January 23(Sat.) 09:00～18:00 International Symposium (Simultaneous interpretation is available.)
      (Approximately 10 lecturers including overseas and domestic researchers)
    • ･ January 24(Sun.) 09:00～17:00 Domestic Symposium(only in Japanese)
      (Approximately 10 lecturers from NPOs, local governments, makers, retailers and researchers)
  • Registration Fee: free of charge (the participants need to apply for it in advance.)
  • Note:
    • ･ Let's reduce future marine litter! Please bring your own water bottles. There are no garbage boxes in the place.
    • ･ We recommend you to prepare your own lunch in advance because we expect so many people try to go the same restaurant at lunch time around the event hall.
    • ･ The program may be changed in the near future.

2. How to apply

We have committed the secretariat and registration for participating to Arts and Crafts Company. Please apply to them with the following explanation no later than January 21st. Please bring a participation certificate, we will send you via E-mail later, with you on the day you will attend the symposium.
If you apply for it via FAX, we will send the participation certificate to you by FAX.

Note; We recommend you to apply in hurry because there is the limit of seats. We have only 350 sheets on 23rd January and 100 sheets on 24th. We cannot accept your application if the number of participants for each day reaches our capacity.
