An Aggregate of Fluorocarbons Destroyed in FY 2007

The Ministry of the Environment announced the amount of fluorocarbons destroyed in FY 2007 based on reports submitted by fluorocarbon destruction operators as required under the Law concerning the Recovery and Destruction of Fluorocarbons.

  1. Total amount of fluorocarbons destroyed Fluorocarbons destroyed in FY 2007 totaled 3,611 tons, a 13% increase from the FY 2006 level. The breakdown of this figure by types of fluorocarbons is 479 tons of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), 2,095 tons of hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), and 1,036 tons of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs)
  2. Amount of specified products collected The breakdown of fluorocarbons collected in relation to specified products is 2,834 tons of commercial refrigerators and air conditioners, an increase of approximately 17 % from the FY 2006 level, and 810 tons of mobile air conditioners, an increase of approximately 5% from the FY 2006 level.

Note: Since January 2005, recovery of fluorocarbons used as refrigerant in mobile air conditioners has been carried out in line with the Law for the Recycling of End-of-Life Vehicles.
