Workshop of the Asian Network for Prevention of Illegal Transboundary Movement of Hazardous Waste

The Ministry of the Environment will hold a Workshop of the Asian Network for Prevention of Illegal Transboundary Movement of Hazardous Wastes to be attended by competent authorities to the Basel Convention from 11 South Asian countries for three days between January 28-30, 2008 in Tokyo. Participants are expected to discuss issues regarding waste criteria and good practices for effective enforcement.
The Asian Network was initially proposed by Japan in 2003 to develop an information exchange network and capacity building to improve enforcement of the Basel Convention in each country. The network so far has organized workshops, managed the web site and conducted research to prevent illegal Transboundary movement of wastes.
