Pacific Islands Youth Environmental Summit to Be Held in Okinawa with Newly Assigned "FY 2006 Okinawa Youth Environmental Ministers"

The Ministry of the Environment and the Cabinet Office selected the "Okinawa Youth Environmental Ministers" for FY2006 to represent each remote island in Okinawa. They are expected to report on environmental issues on their islands and on their commitment to these issues throughout this year.

The Ministry of the Environment and the Cabinet Office will organize the Pacific Islands Youth Environmental Summit at Tenbusu Naha (3-2-10 Makishi, Naha-shi, Okinawa Prefecture) to be held on May 26 - 28, 2006. The objectives of the Summit are to deepen mutual understanding, enhance friendship, and invigorate environmental conservation activities in the Pacific region and Okinawa. The event is being co-hosted by the United Nations University and Okinawa Prefecture. Sixteen youths who are actively involved in environmental conservation activities in the Pacific and the "Okinawa Youth Environmental Ministers" are invited to the Summit to exchange their opinions and views on their future commitment to environmental issues.
