Results of The Ninth Regional EST Forum in Asia

Ministry of the Environment (MOE) of Japan, Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport (MOPIT) of Nepal, United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD), and United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP) jointly organized the Intergovernmental Ninth Regional EST (Environmentally Sustainable Transport) Forum in Asia on November 18-20, 2015 at Hyatt Regency in Kathmandu, Nepal.

The Regional EST Forum in Asia is a high-level policy dialogue among governments in Asian countries with the objective of achieving environmentally sustainable transport in the Asian region. The Ninth Forum was attended by officials and experts including 26 government representatives.

Key elements discussed at the Ninth Forum are shown below:

・Policy and projects related to climate adaptive and disaster resilient transport system;

・Major challenges, progress and achievements by countries on the implementation of Bangkok 2020 Declaration and their intermediate overview; and

・Nepal EST Strategy (2015-2040) for Resilient & Sustainable Development.

Participants confirmed that more efforts should be made for the promotion of EST.

It was also agreed that new activities of Sub-Regional Training Workshops on Building Resilient and Smart Cities be planned in 2016 and the next Forum be held in Lao PDR.
