Summary of import/ export of wastes under the Waste Management Law in 2011

The Ministry of the Environment has published a summary of export confirmations and import permissions of wastes covering January to December 2011 under the Waste Management and Public Cleansing Law. The number of export confirmations and import permissions of wastes were 26 cases and 9 cases, respectively. Total amount of export and import of wastes were 1,172,271 tons and 941 tons, respectively. All of exported wastes were ash from coal fired power plants destined mainly for cement production in South Korea. Imported wastes included waste button batteries and waste iodine-containing catalytic substances, which were received mainly from Asian countries for the purpose of resource recovery.
