Outcomes of the Preliminary Asia Park Congress

To investigate the possibilities for developing partnership for protected areas within Asia which share common cultural and environmental attributes in order to expand protected areas and to enhance their management capabilities of protected areas, the Preliminary Asia Park Congress was held from the 3rd until the 7th of November, 2011 in Tokyo, Japan. This Congress was co-hosted by the MOE Japan, the World Commission on Protected Areas-Japan (WCPA-J), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and so on. More than 70 persons, which were representatives of 18 countries/territories and experts from IUCN, universities, and NGOs attended this Congress.
At the congress holding of the first Asia Park Congress in 2013 was adopted unanimously. Moreover, the Government of Japan (MOE) was requested to host the first Asia Park Congress, to illustrate the role of protected areas for disaster reconstruction through the case of "Sanriku Fukko (reconstruction) National Park" as well as to effectively illustrate the concepts of the protected areas management in collaboration with local communities in the first Asia Park Congress.
