Eighteenth Session of the Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD-18)

The 18th session of the Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD-18) was held at the UN Headquarters in New York on May 3 - 14 (High Level Segment was on May12 - 14), where chemicals and waste management issues were discussed. Mr. Kazuhiko TAKEMOTO, Vice-Minister for Global Environmental Affairs, MOE, headed the Japanese delegation to the meeting.

Japan contributed to the session by playing a co-chair of the Ministerial Round Table "Strategies for sustainable chemicals and waste management" and advocated the necessity of establishing "Minamata Convention". Japan also organized a side event "Towards Global Sound Material Cycle Society," where Japan's approach to waste management and 3R was introduced and shared among participants.
